Bruce Ruth bought the Severance Recreation Hall in 1957 and renamed it after himself; the bar on 1st Street still builds its reputation on Rocky Mountain oysters, served alongside steaks, burgers, wings, chicken sandwiches and salads, and there are a pool table, pinball and arcade games. Its live music and events page (brucesbar123.com/severance-bruce-s-bar-live-music) lists live music every Saturday night from 7 to 10 pm, karaoke on Wednesdays from 7 to 10 pm, music bingo every other Monday at 6:30 pm and line dancing on the last Thursday of the month from 7 to 8 pm. The bar takes reservations and books parties.

  • Explore Severance: four places in driving order

Brownell Park and Bruce's Bar share 1st Street in Old Town; the library and Lakeview Park are a drive away. Four stops, with the hours and rules the Town, the library district and the bar publish.

  • How Severance grew from Tailholt to today

A post office meant to be called Tailholt, a governor's son, a beet dump on the Great Western Railway, a town of about a hundred people for half a century, Bruce's Bar and its Rocky Mountain oysters, a snowball law repealed by a nine-year-old, and growth from 106 people in 1990 to 7,683 in 2020.
