Severance is a Weld County town on the plains north-east of Windsor, with its parks, the Town says, spread through its subdivisions. The old center is 1st Street, which the Town also calls Weld County Road 23: Brownell Park and Bruce’s Bar stand on the same street, and Lakeview Park is off South 1st Street. The library and Town Hall are on Timber Ridge Parkway, a drive away, which is why this is a driving order rather than a walk. Severance has few places to eat of its own; Windsor’s, on this guide, are next door.
Brownell Park at 336 1st Street is a small, shady park at the Old Town Hall, which the Town also places at the north-west corner of East Harmony and Weld County Road 23. It is lawn and trees with picnic tables and nothing else listed: no playground, no restroom. It does not appear on the Town’s Parks & Recreation list but has its own page in the facilities directory, and no hours are posted for it.
Getting there: 1st Street, in Old Town. Best for: a picnic table and a short stop at the old middle of town.
Bruce’s Bar at 123 1st Street has carried the name since 1957, when Bruce Ruth bought the Severance Recreation Hall and renamed it. Its own history page says it began serving Rocky Mountain oysters in 1959 and that a freelance artist painted the murals on the outside in 1972, among them a group of bulls protesting the dish. The menu is oysters, steaks, burgers, wings, chicken sandwiches and salads, with a pool table, pinball and arcade games inside. Hours are Monday to Thursday 10 am–9 pm, Friday and Saturday 10 am–11 pm, Sunday 10 am–8 pm. The bar lists live music every Saturday 7–10 pm, karaoke on Wednesdays 7–10 pm, music bingo every other Monday at 6:30 pm and line dancing on the last Thursday of the month 7–8 pm. It takes reservations and books parties.
Getting there: the same street as Brownell Park; the bar has its own lot. Best for: lunch or dinner; a Saturday night for the band.
The Severance Library at 5 Timber Ridge Parkway is the Clearview Library District’s branch in town, open Monday to Thursday 10 am–6 pm and Friday and Saturday 10 am–5 pm, closed Sunday; the district’s closure list for the rest of 2026 includes an early 2 pm close on November 25, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and a 2 pm close on New Year’s Eve. Go in open hours or for a program listed on the events calendar. Town Hall is beside it at 3 South Timber Ridge Parkway, at the corner with Weld County Road 74, open weekdays 8 am–5 pm with a lunch closure from noon to 1 pm. On October 30, 3–5 pm, the Town’s Trick or Treat Parade runs through both buildings; a nonperishable food item for the Weld Food Bank is the entry fee.
Getting there: by car, to Timber Ridge Parkway at County Road 74. Best for: an hour out of the weather, or a storytime from the calendar.
Lakeview Park at 513½ Broadview Drive is the Town’s large park at the south end of the Lakeview subdivision: open grass and trees, covered picnic shelters, restrooms, barbecue pits, a playground, a skateboard park and basketball courts. The Town’s page lists four parking areas, at the entrance from South 1st Street at Broadview Drive, at the south ends of Mallard Drive and Lakeview Drive, and an asphalt lot at the park’s south end. The Town’s Parks & Recreation page says its parks are open to the public; a group of more than fifty needs a reservation, filed at least ten business days ahead. The park is closed for now: the Town’s notice of August 19, 2026 closed it from Monday, August 17, while new playground equipment is installed, and no reopening date had been posted when its pages were read on 10 October 2026. Check the Town’s news page before you drive there.
Getting there: back on South 1st Street (Weld County Road 23), the same road as Old Town, turning at Broadview Drive. Best for: the playground and the skate park, and the only restrooms any page read for this guide lists.
Drive times are estimates for normal conditions and vary with traffic, weather and construction; check a live routing service before you set out. Windsor is next door; from Fort Collins or Greeley allow about half an hour, and from Denver about an hour. None of the Town or library pages read for this guide describes a bus service to Severance, so none is claimed.
The Town’s pages give no hours for its parks and no parking rules for 1st Street. Posted signs override anything written here.
The Town’s page for Lakeview Park lists restrooms and four parking areas; the library district’s hours page and the bar’s site say nothing about access. None of the pages read for this guide states that any of the four places has designated accessible parking, a paved route or a step-free entrance, so none of that has been confirmed and none is claimed here; contact the Town at 970-686-1218, the library at 970-686-5603 or the bar directly before relying on it. Corrections and additions to this section are welcome and published with their date.
