Boardwalk Park & Windsor Lake

The Town park on Windsor Lake at the north edge of downtown: swim beach, boat rentals, fishing, a playground, a stage and three shelters, with the 2.25-mile lake trail and the History Museum's old buildings on the grounds.

Boardwalk Community Park wraps the south shore of Windsor Lake, a block north of Main Street at 5th, and is where the town goes in summer. There is a playground, a stage, sand volleyball, restrooms, and three reservable shelters with electricity: two seating about 32 and the Market Pavilion for about 80. The swim beach, the only place swimming is allowed, is marked by ropes and buoys and open mid-May through September. The rental stand puts out aqua trikes, canoes, kayaks, paddle boards, CORCLs and GoBoats from Memorial Day weekend ($10 per half hour, $12 for a GoBoat); it has closed for 2026 and reopens Memorial Day weekend 2027. Motorized and non-motorized boats need a Town permit, daily or seasonal.

Fishing is allowed year-round when the lake is not frozen, with a Colorado license, from the shore but not from the dock or the beach; the lake is stocked with yellow perch, bluegill, channel catfish and trout, and night fishing is limited to the west side along Highway 257. Dogs must be leashed except at the Windsor Lake Dog Park on the north shore, which has water access. The Windsor Lake Trail runs 2.25 miles around the whole lake. The five relocated historic buildings of the Windsor History Museum, including the 1882 depot, stand in the park and open in summer. The Town asks that no one, and no dog, go out on the ice in winter.
