Windsor History Museum

Five historic buildings moved to Boardwalk Park, among them the 1882 train depot, an 1885 schoolhouse, a beet shack and a chapel, open free on summer weekends from late May to early September.

The outdoor history museum at Boardwalk Park, on the shore of Windsor Lake, is a small village of buildings the Town saved and moved here: the 1882 train depot, once the town’s center of commerce, communication and passengers, which arrived in 1975; the 1885 schoolhouse, first through eighth grade plus the teacher’s rooms, moved in 1993; an early-1900s four-square farmhouse (2005); a beet shack of the kind that housed sugar-beet field laborers and their families; and an early-1900s chapel (1990) that served as church and community hall.

Admission is free, with donations welcome. The 2026 season ran May 22 to September 6, Thursday and Friday 9 to 1, Saturday 9 to 4 and Sunday 9 to 1; outside the season the buildings can be seen from the park paths. The Art & Heritage Center on 5th Street, the Eaton House and the Historic Halfway Homestead are the other three Town museums.
